Future Olympians to compete at USATF National Junior Olympic Championships

JACKSONVILLE -- Thousands of young athletes from across the country will be descending on Jacksonville, Florida for the 2015 USATF National Junior Olympic Track & Field Championships next week, July 27-August 2. Athletes ranging from 7 to 18 will be competing in the full range of events at Hodges Stadium and 1,080 track clubs will also be represented.

 

The first two days of the 2015 USATF National Junior Olympic Championships will be available on demand on USATF.TV, while the rest of the meet will be webcast live beginning at 8 a.m. ET from Wednesday, July 29-Sunday, August 2. The Opening Ceremonies will also be shown live at 7 p.m. ET on Tuesday, July 28.

 

Darrion Flowers (Cibolo, Texas) of Hallmark Track Club owns the top overall time in the 100m, entered in the men’s 17-18 division, while Kynnedy Flannel (Alvin, Texas) has the fastest time of any women’s sprinter with her entry of 11.61. She will compete in the 15-16 division.

 

Jernaya Sharp (Garland, Texas) is entered in four events this weekend, as she’ll compete in the 17-18 100m, 100mH, long jump and triple jump over the course of the championships.

 

Antuane Dennard (Lawrenceville, Georgia) comes into the week with an impressive score in the 15-16 decathlon, owning a best of 6,478 points, which is over 1,000 points more than any other competitor in his age group and the third best score among all competitors. Dennard is also entered in the 110mH, 400H and the high jump, coming into the week with the best mark in the 15-16 high jump, second best in the 15-16 400H and third best in the 110H.

 

Jayhlen Washington (Winnabow, North Carolina) is competing in three events on the weekend, owning the top marks in the 15-16 long jump (6.90m/22-7.75) and triple jump (14.34m/47-0.75) and a top-10 entry in the 15-16 110H (15.17).

The most visible youth athletic development program in the world, the USATF National Junior Olympic Track & Field Championships is in its 49th year. Many of today's Olympic stars began their track and field careers competing in the USATF National Junior Olympic Track & Field Championships.

 Athletes qualify for the national meet in Jacksonville based on performances at preliminary, Association, and Regional levels of the 2015 USATF Junior Olympic Program. Competition takes place in six (6) two-year age divisions, with athletes generally falling between the ages of 7 and 18.
