Congratulations USATF Officials

Congratulations to five USATF Officials who are eligible to become Area Technical Officials (ATOs) in the NACAC (North American, Central American and Carribean)  region.  The five veteran USATF officials are Mike Armstrong, Laurie Boemker, Carol Coram, Ed Gorman and Betsy Reed.

The USATF officials attended the IAAF T.O.E.C.S. Level II Technical Officials course December 15-20, 2014 in Puerto Rico.  They passed the one-week course consisting of presentations, lectures and demonstrations from an international group of officials.  The week concluded with both written and oral exams.

NACAC meets will select ATO’s for various meets from the pool of officials who passed the course.

Studer sets record at USATF 100 Mile Trail Championships

HUNTSVILLE, Texas -- The USATF 100 Mile Trail Championships, hosted Saturday, Jan. 31
by the Rocky Raccoon 100, crowned the defending women’s champion with an American record, and a first-time men’s champion.

Nicole Studer (Dallas, Texas) won her second national title in as many years on the course
with five, 20-mile loops after gaining a decisive lead through the third loop to finish with an American record of 14:22:18. Studer’s finish was one hour and 22 minutes faster than her 2014 first-place finish, and she ran the race without watch. In second
place was Liza Howard (San Antonio, Texas), who also claimed the Masters women’s title in 15:34:34. Melanie Fryar (San Antonio, Texas) was third in 16:17:25.

In the men’s race, 41-year-old Paul Terranova (Austin, Texas) made up 14 minutes for a come-from-behind victory and his first national title. He completed 100
miles of gently rolling hills in 14:05:17, as Sam Skeels (Adrian, Michigan) finished second in 14:11:40 and Ronnie Delze (Woodlands, Texas) finished third in 14:15:53.

Pre-teen crowned champ in 5 km

Eleven-year-old Olivia Garcia cruised to an easy victory at the inaugural Big Game 5K/10K in La Vegas. She led the women’s field from start to finish, posting a 5K finish in 18:52 to cross 90 seconds ahead of the 27-year-old second place finisher. Garcia began running at age nine, and she already has several victories under her belt.
