SHANGHAI -- The second meeting of the IAAF Diamond League came to Shanghai, as American athletes turned in solid showings early in the outdoor season.

David Oliver took home the lone Diamond League title for U.S. athletes Sunday, winning the men’s 110-meter hurdles in a season’s best 13.17, his fastest time since August 2013. Compatriot Aries Merritt also scored in the Diamond League race with a third-place finish of 13.25, a season’s best.

Jeff Henderson had an impressive day on the long jump runway, just missing out on the Shanghai win by half an inch. Henderson utilized his first jump of the day, 8.26m/27-1.25, to take the lead for the entirety of the competition until Aleksandr Menkov’s fifth and final jump of 8.27m/27-1.75. Menkov would pass his final jump and take the title.

Tori Bowie continued her fast times on the track, earning two points in the Diamond League women’s 100 meters, crossing in a season’s best 11.07.

American quartermilers went 2-3-4 in the men’s 400 meters, with Tony McQuay crossing as the top U.S. athlete in 45.54. LaShawn Merritt was not far behind in 45.58 and David Verburg finished just outside point contention with his time of 45.65.

Tiffany Williams and Cassandra Tate both turned in season-best times in Sunday’s 400-meter hurdles to score crucial Diamond League points, as Williams crossed second in 55.27 and Tate just behind her in 55.68.

Tia Brooks battled in the women’s shot put, sitting in sixth for much of the competition before launching the shot 18.66m/61-2.75 to go from sixth to third and score a point in the Diamond League race.

The next Diamond League meeting is the Nike Prefontaine Classic in Eugene, Oregon at Historic Hayward Field, May 30-31. Tickets are available here and fans can join the conversation by following USATF on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram and using the hashtag #PreClassic.
