BARRANQUILLA, Colombia -- Twenty-two athletes from Team USA will compete at the inaugural APA Pan American Cross Country Cup held Sunday, Feb. 22 in Barranquilla, a northern Colombia city near the Caribbean Sea.
 
The day begins with junior women at 8 a.m. before junior men at 9 a.m. The senior women’s race starts at 10 a.m., followed by the senior men at 11 a.m.
 
Leading the senior teams are Joseph Gray (Lakewood, Washington) for the men and Mattie Suver (Colorado Springs, Colorado) for the women.
 
Making his 17th national team, Gray is a nine-time U.S. champion with five NACAC Mountain Running titles. He is the 2014 NACAC Cross Country Champion and was named the 2014 Men’s Mountain Runner of the Year at the USATF Mountain Ultra Trail Awards. Gray finished the 12 km at USATF Cross Country Championships in 36:58.
 
Suver was second at the USATF Cross Country Championships, clocking 28:13 in the 8 km in Boulder, and she was top-10 at this year’s USATF Half Marathon Championships with her time of 1:11:51.
 
Team scoring will be the standard four-to-score IAAF cross country scoring based on overall places for each team finisher.
