SAN JOSE, Costa Rica — Olympians, Pan Am medalist and U.S. Champions compose the U.S. roster competing at the 2015 North American, Central American and Caribbean Athletics Association (NACAC) Senior Area Championships from Aug. 7-9 at Estadio Nacional in the picturesque capital city of Costa Rica.
Team USA includes 10 Olympians and 18 athletes who recently represented Team USA at the Pan American Games in Toronto, where they won an astounding 41 medals.
Among the Olympians are
Kara Winger (Colorado Springs, Colorado) in javelin,
Jillian Camerena-Williams (Tucson, Arizona) in shot put,
Barbara Pierre (Knightdale, North Carolina) in the 100 meters,
Lolo Jones (Baton Rouge, Louisiana) in the 100m hurdles,
Chaunté Lowe (Loganville, Georgia) in high jump,
Andrew Wheating in the 1500m and
Lopez Lomong (Lake Oswego, Oregon) in the 5,000m.
Chanelle Price (Easton, Pennsylvania), a World Indoor Champion and 4x800m World Relay gold medalist, will compete in the 800m after having recently rabbited the Diamond League 1500m to a World-record setting finish.
The roster also includes Pan American silver medalists
Tenaya Jones (Rowlett, Texas) in the 100mH and
Shalaya Kipp (Boulder, Colorado) in the 3000 steeplechase.
The NACAC event is especially important for five American athletes, who are chasing World Championships qualifying standards in their events. Three-time Olympian in high jump
Lowe (Loganville, Georgia) along with javelin thrower
Riley Dolezal (Fargo, North Dakota), triple jumper
Christina Epps (Morristown, New Jersey) and discus throwers
Russ Winger (Colorado Springs, Colorado) and
Andrew Evans (Portage, Michigan) are all hoping to achieve qualifying marks to represent Team USA at IAAF World Championships slated for Aug. 22-30 in Beijing.
