Instructor Training

If you are interested in teaching at a Level 1 School you must complete the Instructor Training Course (ITC). ITC schools are typically held in conjunction with Level 2 schools.

Requirements

  • Must have completed two Level 2 event disciplines and the Level 2 sports science modules prior to applying or at least one USATF Level 3/IAAF Academy event discipline.
  • Must have a minimum of eight years of full time coaching experience at the interscholastic, collegiate, or elite club coaching level. Only coaching experience gained after the age of 21 will be considered. 
  • Preferred previous classroom teaching and/or public speaking experience
  • Preferred experience in a sports science discipline
  • Must submit three references with resume

*Any coach who has successfully completed the ITC course from USATF is welcome to state that said coach is a certified USATF Level 1 Instructor. However, USATF does not provide those coaches with any logos or other USATF intellectual property for marketing purposes.

About ITC Schools

The Instructor Training Course (ITC) is an approximate 16 hours of classroom lecture by Coach Education Master Coaches, representations of Level 1 content, preparation of event session plan, video presentation, and demonstration of skills in various track and field events. Home assignments will be forwarded to students as ITC course fees are paid after acceptance. Final requirement is to mentor at a minimum of one Level 1 School within 10 months of completion of course work.
