Level 1 Recertification Program 

Recertification Guidelines for All Current Level 1 Coaches Before December 31, 2020 Expiration

Current certified Level 1 coaches must complete a USATF approved continuing education course each Olympic quad to maintain certification. Level 1 certification expires in the year of the Summer Olympic Games on December 31st. Individuals whom complete a school in the last 12 months of the expiring year of the quad are exempt from recertification until the subsequent quad.  
 
Level 2 and 3 certified coaches are permanently exempt from Level 1 recertification requirements. 
 
Qualifying Period (current certification) 
 
January 1, 2013 – December 31, 2020
 
(Level 1 certification issued prior to December 31, 2012 is no longer current, and coaches will need to register and attend an updated Level 1 School to attain certification).
 
Recertification Options
 
The following options have been approved by the USATF Coaching Education Committee and qualify for Level 1 recertification: 

1) Completion of a minimum of one online sports science or technical course on USATF Campus

2) Completion of a minimum of one USATF specialty course or clinic including, Super Clinic, Learn By Doing Clinic, Cross Country Specialist Course, or Emerging Elite Coaches Camp.

3)  Attend a new Level 1 School within the current quad, but after the completion date of the original school and pass the online Level 1 exam.  

No credit will be provided for any courses or clinics completed prior to Level 1 certificate date. 

Application:
A recertification application will be available in the last 12 months of the current certification period in which one of the completed options listed above can be documented. After submission to the National Office, the profile will be verified, and an updated Level 1 certificate will be issued. 

All applications must be received by December 31, 2020.
