The Best Over-40 Performances of the Year in the 5km, 10km, Half Marathon, and Marathon
Here are the top Age-Graded times for 2014 for runners from age 40 (Jen Rhines) to 91 (Harriette Thompson) in the four most popular distances. A handful of names are very prominent in the lists. The females are led by Sabra Harvey with five mentions, followed closely by Kathryn Martin, Deena Kastor and Chris Kennedy with four. The males are led by Kevin Castille with six mentions, followed closely by Tracy Lokken with five.
In terms of quality, there were 15 marks that exceeded the 100% threshold, all recorded by females. The show-stopping , jaw dropping 114.88% was recorded by cancer-survivor Harriette Thompson, 91, Charlotte, NC, in her 15th running of the Rock N Roll Marathon in San Diego, CA. She also exceeded 100% performance in a 5km in her hometown. Other multiple100% performances were recorded by Libby James (3), Sabra Harvey (2), Jan Holmquist (2), Kathryn Martin (2), and Christine Kennedy (2). The highest two male performances – 97.03% and 96.67% were recorded by Mbarak Hussein. Males who exceeded 95% are Kevin Castille (5), Tim Freeman (1) and Tom McCormack (1).
