About Ian
A staple in the men’s discus on the national scene for more than a decade, Ian Waltz will be attempt to make his third Olympic team in 2012. The three-time USA Outdoor champion, Waltz spent each season since 2004 among the top five performers in the country. He won the 2008 Olympic Trials with a toss more than seven feet ahead of the runner-up. Twice in his career he has recorded the top throw in the country. A prep standout at Port Falls HS in Idaho, Waltz earned four track letters and three letters as a fullback and defensive end in football. The state record holder in the discus, Waltz was named the Idaho Athlete of the Year in 1995. A kinesiology major at WSU and is married to former pole vaulter Stacy Dragila, who gave birth to their daughter, Allyx Josephine, on June 21, 2010. His first name is pronounced “Eye-an.”
